It is a challenge to be miles away from home to study. You may feel alone, plus the struggle of adapting to a different culture and environment. This is totally normal for an international student to feel. Here are some tips on how one can cope up with being an international student.
- Make the place where you live in feel like home. Indeed, there is no place like home. To cope up with your separation anxiety, decorate your room such that it will mimic your room back home. Make yourself comfortable.
- Connect with students in school who are from your home country as well. Doing this will make you feel less alone. They will help you feel that you belong. Also, they will be the people whom you will be shy or afraid to ask for help.
- Make new friends too. Meet and mingle with new people. This is the easiest way for you to be able to learn how to adapt with the new culture.
- Keep yourself busy. You will surely be busy with school work but do not just occupy yourself with school, there are plenty of other stuffs that you can do in a new place. Do not be afraid to explore and enjoy.
